Three Word Summary
Versatile Freestyle Performance

First Impressions: Slingshot have really raised the bar with the graphics this year, and the misfit just looks great with the yellow, orange and black detail with transparent sections through to the wood core.
The deck is light and feels flexible at the centre, yet the channeling at the tips adds a lot of rigidity. The Misfit comes with the fast track mounting system which allows the heavy duty pads to be set up to your exact preference.
The Misfit is pretty flat and only has 25-30mm of rocker. It comes with 50cm fins, has a single concave, spray release edges and maintains its width well through to the tips.


On The Water: 
The Misfit is a very comfortable ride, glides through the chop with ease kicking up little to no spray, which was a real surprise especially considering how little rocker it has. It feels a little small for a 136, yet its low rocker ensures its very efficient and accelerates up to a good speed without any significant drag. The top end speed is very good, and the large fins and channeled tips make it feel very stable. Its also a very capable upwind performer, and had no issues getting back to where I started after banging out a few tricks.
The Channels and large fins do mean that you need to commit somewhat to spinning the board on the water, but once used to it this becomes a real non-issue.

The pads, straps and fast track system give a comfortable, solid connection with the board, giving you plenty of confidence to really push it. The pads felt hard initially, but just required a little bedding in, and soon softened up a bit underfoot. Optionally you can pay a little extra to go for the Slingshot Joints, to improve that connected feeling. A review of which will follow in the next few days.

The Misfit really shines when you start to push it into some freestyle. The fins and channels give it great grip, allowing you to edge hard prior to boosting, and this also leads to grippy, solid landings. It also excels in unhooked pop too, and the wide tips and central flex whip you up into the air, whilst also allowing you to get maximal slack from the kite, by forcing it hard to the edge of the window.
For tricking in good or marginal wind conditions the Darko is a great choice with its increased surface area and flatter ride; but when conditions are less than ideal the Misfit really is the weapon of choice!

In Summary: 
The Misfit is sure to have wide appeal with its comfortable ride in all conditions, great grip and solid upwind performance - it also comes in a wide range of sizes to suit any rider. For the advanced, everything is there on a plate : great speed, explosive pop and grippy landings.

Burton Snowboards

Snowboarding is currently one of the fastest growing sports in the world attracting attention that is in turn helping the ski industry to grow. Many young people already with an interest in surfing and skateboarding appear to be turning to snowboarding and therefore resilient and high quality equipment has become a necessity.

 Of all the brands producing snowboards, Burton is at the forefront offering a wide range of snowboards and snowboarding equipment. They are the leading manufacturer of snowboards along with boots, outerwear, goggles and other protection equipment.

It is impossible to imagine that the brand was established in 1977 by twenty-two year old Jake Burton, who began building makeshift snowboard prototypes in his barn. He then tested these boards in the hills of southern Vermont.

Eventually settling on a narrow board with single strap bindings with a rope and handle attached to the nose he produced his first snowboard the Burton Backhill closely followed by the Burton Backyard. These boards would go on to set the tone for multiple models Burton produced all his snowboards by hand and until 1980 business was slow. In that year his sales of boards went up by an average of 133%.

The brand never looked back going on to sponsor the world’s best snowboarders including Craig Kelly, Jeff Brushie and Kelly Clark. In 1984 Burton developed their first snowboarding outwear line continuing on to found Gravis Footwear in 1998.

PETEBOX Performing Live at S2AS Summer Party!

Having toured extensively with the likes of artists as varied as Jay Sean, Foreign Beggars and Diversity and showcasing his unique approach to beatboxing and music creation at many of the countries major festivals and live venues throughout the world, THePETEBOX has carried momentum in full swing over 2011-2012. 

Introducing himself to the world of youtube, his first hd video of his reinterpretation of Pixies classic ‘Where Is My Mind’ went viral, amassing over 2.5 million views and counting and receiving accolades from Blink 182’s bassist Mark Hopper, MTV US and the Pixies themselves who put it on their website.

This has set the foundations for THePETEBOX’s first studio album ‘Future Loops’, which is completed and has been released in a unique way – each track was released as live videos on youtube leading to the official album release in April 2012. 

This ‘live, studio, video’ beatbox album has amassed over 4 million views to date and the videos have been featured on many major blogsites and web content sharing sites. To accompany the album approach, Pete's innovative live set has evolved further still and now features the use of effects, more loopers and a guitar to build layers of vocals into fully crafted tracks, integrating his award winning beatbox skills with the new setup to achieve stunning results.

The History of Brunotti

Brunotti is an international boardsports lifestyle brand, popular among snowboarders and surfers. Founded in 1980, the brand has seen three successful decades and continues to grow, providing everything from boards and footwear, to clothing and stationary.

The origins of the brand are central to the message that the company wants to convey – promoting a healthy and active lifestyle by providing high quality products, to fund people with a passion for boardsports and its lifestyle.

The name of the brand came from an Italian Windsurfer Claudio Brunotti who settled in Scheveningen, NL in 1979. With a love of surfing he opened his own workshop and began designing his own surfboards. That same year he went on to win world cup titles after entering several surfing competitions.

Soon Brunotti started selling his boards which quickly gained popularity. The combination of Italian style with a surfer’s edge developed an impressive reputation and consequently Brunotti began to branch out to produce T-shirts and then beachwear.

By 1985, Brunotti was developing snowboarding outfits alongside his clothing collection which were also suitable for extreme snowboarders. Perhaps the secret to his success was that he designed his products based on personal experience adapting to boarders with a variety of standards. By 1997, the brand was a huge success and was purchased by current shareholders who transformed it into a competitive sportswear brand it is today, producing two collections a year to be sold to the European Market.

Brunotti products can now be purchased online and from sport equipment stores. Popular products include kite surf boards and Brunotti eyewear introduced to collections in 2004. The brand continues to be a success and is an important player in the boardsports industry.

Worlds Longest Kayak - Fits 100 People!

Point 65 Kayaks Sweden and L.L. Bean launched the world's longest modular kayak in celebration of L.L. Bean’s 100th Anniversary at the Annual PaddleSports Weekend on June 2, 2012. 

A team of 100 L.L. Bean employees paddled the 407-foot-long (124 meters) kayak on the chilly waters of Casco Bay, to the applause of spectators and kayak enthusiasts.

”It was effortless –and very stable. I was never worried, even when the wind picked up. We had a great time”.  said one L.L. Bean employee

 L.L.Bean is submitting the notary-certified record to Guinness World Records for consideration.

The unique kayak used in the attempt, the Point 65 Tequila!, comes in modular sections to accomodate one or more paddlers. The Tequila! Won Popular Science Magazine’s Best of What’s New award in 2010.
