Point 65 Kayaks Sweden and L.L. Bean
launched the world's longest modular kayak in celebration of L.L. Bean’s 100th
Anniversary at the Annual PaddleSports Weekend on June 2, 2012.
A team of 100 L.L. Bean employees
paddled the 407-foot-long (124 meters) kayak on the chilly waters of Casco Bay,
to the applause of spectators and kayak enthusiasts.
”It was effortless –and very stable.
I was never worried, even when the wind picked up. We had a great time”.
said one L.L. Bean employee
L.L.Bean is submitting the
notary-certified record to Guinness World Records for consideration.
The unique kayak used in the
attempt, the Point 65 Tequila!, comes in modular sections to accomodate one or
more paddlers. The Tequila! Won Popular Science Magazine’s Best of What’s New
award in 2010.
