Top Five Cable Wakeboards in 2020

Wakeboarding at a cable park
Wakeboarding at a Cable park

We have been hard at work this winter testing as many Cable wakeboards as possible, so you don't have too. We also produce a lot of content for youtube for our wakeboard reviews, and these are a little more in-depth. So if you like what you see here about the top Five Cable wakeboards then make sure you double up on your Wakeboard knowledge and head over to our youtube page and watch some of our video reviews, We will add them below, so it is easy to find.

Surface2Air Sports Youtube Channel

So first thing first whats important in a cable wakeboard? What do you the rider need to look out for when buying a cable board?
We will run you through all the things that we feel are important when choosing the correct wakeboard for your needs and riding style.

Wakeboard core's

Whats the board made from? Is it a Foam core, Full Wood Core or a hybrid between the two?

Wood cores are the best for flex and strength in Cable wakeboards; Wood is the strongest and also has an excellent memory for pop and response.

Wood Core

The hybrid core will allow the board to be stiffer & lighter than a full wood core and offer you even more pop than a complete wood core wakeboard just not as strong. These wakeboards also perform better if you ever want to wakeboard behind a boat.

Foam Core's - These wakeboards are best kept just for wakeboarding behind a boat they will not hold up well to lap after lap of kickers and sliders so stay away from the Foam cores for Cable wakeboarding.

Carbon

Some wakeboards have carbon some do not, So what will carbon do for you as a rider and will it help you.
So carbon will add stiffness to the board, Carbon will make the wakeboard lots more explosive and responsive. Most riders will not need Carbon array in their wakeboards.

Bottom Features

Flat base or lots of channelling on the base of the wakeboard?

Well, this will depend on the style of riding you want to do at your local cable wakeboard park.
Here I'll give you an example: If you are into air tricks and not a huge fan of sliders, then I would push you towards a bit more channelling on the base of the board.
Channelling will give you more grip and line tension; these two things will provide you with much bigger airs.
As you come down hard and fast in flat water, the channelling will also help with grip and direction on landing.

A smoother base will be much better on Sliders because the more of the base that's in contact with the obstacle the better, this will make it a lot more stable and offer much better flex.
You will also feel that the board will feel loose at first but you will soon get used to it. Featureless bases make the board a lot more forgiving also so if you looking for your first Cable wakeboard this is where you should be looking.

So let's get down to our top five Cable Wakeboards for 2020

Coming in at number 5:

Slingshot Bishop Wakeboard
Amazing Cable wakeboard if obstacles are your thing, its loose and feel's super smooth both on and off obstacles. The price is what pushed it down to number 5 and not fourth spot. But if you are looking for a one board quiver for Cable riding the Slingshot Bishop has you covered for sure. Give us a call if you are unsure of what size to go for.

Fighting for 4th Spot:

Hyperlite Codyak Wakeboard -  Hyperlite Codyak Video Review
Ok so this one is crazy for me as my first ride I did not like it at all, I just could not get dialled into the board.
I came off the water very disappointed, But I decided to ride it again the following day, and I just felt that the board felt so much better in fact lap after lap the Codyak just kept getting better and better.
I could not believe it. In the end, I spend twice as long on the Hyperlite Codyak than any other wakeboard on this list.
I loved it. Its full wood core and the fact I wouldn't say I liked it at first was merely down to the shape. Its a completely new wakeboard shape I was just not used to at all but now! Wow just wow! I love it.
It is just so forgiving and free-flowing. The best bit of advice for this wakeboard is trying it more than once if like me you can't get into it at first. It is just so rewarding.

Filling 3rd Spot:

Ronix Kinetik Project Wakeboard
The Kinetik has been in my top 5 Cable wakeboards for the last 3 years now! The Ronix Kinetik is an all-round killer of a wakeboard. No matter your style the Kinetik will kill it and then some!
The board is fast, forgiving and has excellent flex. My all-round choice of a weapon that's crazy strong for big hits and gaps.
This wakeboard will keep you on the water lap after lap. A wakeboard that will keep you progressing for years to come.

Securing 2nd Spot:

Liquid Force Peak Wakeboard
The Liquid Force Peak has been in the Liquid Force line up for years and it's going nowhere! Nico himself rates the pop on this wakeboard as the best in the world.
The thing that really stands out about this board for me is the grip. The Peak is a finless wakeboard like most Cable wakeboards now but it rides like it has fins it just offers some much grip not sure where it comes from but, Hell its there!
So even for a complete beginner wakeboarder, this is an excellent board as it feels so solid underfoot. But the wakeboarder that knows his or her way around a cable the Liquid Force Peak will have you going high, Faster and charging harder into all obstacles at your local cable park I can promise you that.

And the Winner of the top five Cable wakeboards is:

The Winner for top Spot goes to a wakeboard that for me has started a change in wakeboarding as a whole, and this deck is a game-changer if you want to be able to fine-tune your ride for each session, from learning Air tricks or getting more pop to getting more flex for those sliders.

Our number one Cable Wakeboard for 2020 is. Drum roll.

Ronix Selekt Wakeboard
This wakeboard will be like nothing else you have ever ridden and if it is, Change it!
You can change the flex on the fly with ease.
Let's say you and your mates are on a fast track to learning a new air trick anything from a raley to a 313.
Stiffen the wakeboard up by adding all the flex bars, You will be getting more air time instantly, Or you want to get that flex press on the slider and drop off with a 360, Remove some of the Flex bars where the press will be to give you that extra flex but not lose all the pop for the release.
The choices seem endless and I just never got bored playing with it, It just offers so much more than any other Cable wakeboard.
You may just set it up how you like it a ride all the time like that, that's cool but it's great to know you can mix it up when you're ready.

Wakeboarding with S2AS

Few water sports are as exciting as wakeboarding. Developed on the heels of the snowboarding craze, wakeboarding involves riding a wakeboard usually with fins and boots for the feet pulled by a boat at speeds of around twenty miles per hour. The wakeboard rider uses techniques of waterskiing, snowboarding and surfing to cut across the wake of the motor boat and jump into the air and performing acrobatics on the board much like a snowboarder.

In England there are excellent areas to pursue the sport of wakeboarding. One such location that affords excellent conditions for this sport is Camber Sands. Those new to the sport can learn on a large costal lake just outside of Kent where wakeboarding lessons are given for those from the novice to the professional level. Once instruction is complete wake boarders can head for the open water just off the beach for more exhilaration on the waves from this exciting sport.

Poole is another area that has excellent conditions for wakeboarding. Located in the south of Britain, Poole Harbour is perfect for the pursuit of water sports. Wakeboarding is no exception. There are many days when the wind is quiet and wake boarders abound. There are also times at where the wind is up and more challenge can be found as the cresting waves thrill wakeboarders and kite surfers alike.

In both locations Surface 2 Air Sports is the dealer of choice for wakeboarding equipment and instruction. With wakeboards, vests, ropes, and other gear for the novice to the experienced wake boarder Surface 2 Air Sports has all that the wakeboard aficionado needs in a location that is convenient to the awesome wakeboarding areas.

In addition to wakeboarding there are other sports of kite surfing, wind surfing, waterskiing and the like that wakeboarders may choose to try. It is difficult to beat wakeboarding however for continual enjoyment in the water not only for the wakeboarder but also the group of friends in the boat or on the beach.

Slingshot Lunacy 132 x 41 2009 Review

At A Glance
Ruben Lenten has been riding the Fuel from Slingshot for seven years! Famously he was riding Brunotti kiteboards for a while, but a couple of years ago he switched to Slingshot sticks and last year they produced his first ever Pro Model kiteboard, the Slingshot Lunacy.

This year the board has undergone some changes and improvements. The main one being the technology that has been borrowed from Slingshot’s wakeboard construction techniques. The kite boards are actually made at the Slingshot wakeboard factory in the USA and come in three sizes, the 129, 132, and 135.

The construction used is dubbed FRT, which stands for Future Response Technology. This kite board promises to have improved flex, rebound and pop over previous models. The graphics have undergone a major change too and you can’t argue with the appearance of the board; the white and gold looks pimp.

The outline and shape is similar to last year and you can tell from the super wide tips that this board has been shaped with freestyle firmly in mind.

On the Water
The Slingshot Lunacy is a thorough bred freestyle machine, and you must remember this board has been designed with one person in mind. When you consider that person is none other than Ruben Lenten, one of the most hardcore and aggressive riders out there, you will get some idea as to what this board is like.

First up it is very fast in a straight line. You almost don’t notice just how quick you are going until you load up the edge and explode off the water. But it isn’t as simple as that. The board needs to be ridden very aggressively to achieve the maximum performance. It isn’t a forgiving ride at all and we found it quite hard to get the most out of it. On flat water though, one you are tuned in, there really isn’t a limit to its performance, except perhaps your own riding ability! Landing tricks is really easy on the super wide platform, but getting into them when the board is going at Mach 10 can be a little tricky!

Out of the flat water and into serious chop the Lunacy isn’t quite as at home. The stiff mid section makes it an effort on your knees and this kiteboard is by no means easy to ride.

Experts only need really apply here. In fact if you’re young, dumb and Dutch it is probably perfect, which of course is the whole reason for its existence. As older, slower riders we still prefer the Misfit, as it is easier to ride and much more forgiving than the Lunacy.

Pros
Insane performance - it’s called the Lunacy after all! If you are an expert rider looking for the ultimate then search no further. Especially if you like to ride super fast and powered.

Cons
Very specific freestyle machine and definitely not for the mere mortals out there!

Overall
If you like the way Ruben rides and you think you have the balls to ride like him, give the Slingshot Lunacy a go.

Ronix Phoenix Project S Wakeboard 2013

Let us introduce you to the new Ronix Phoenix Project S Wakeboard 2013, this is the board that started the trend in Stored Energy constructions!

Now with a new diamond glass lay up, the Phoenix Project “S” opens up a new spectrum of board designs and riding styles allowing a rider to push all the way up the wake, and as the tail passes through the peak, it continues to build energy - not dampening the ride like most “flex” boards out there.

What’s special about this board is that a rider can feel the shift in board energy from the nose to the tail the longer they wait due to the unique lay up and wide 28” stance option.

With the Phoenix Project’s thinner profile and diamond glass shape, you can feel a balance point - while pressing rails, as the board flexes until it locks. The new diamond construction is for riders who want more of a snow/skate feel leaving the wake and added control on rails, or that just have a conventional style and want a smoother overall ride.

Key features include:

•    Full center rail creates a smooth transferring board from edge to edge
•    Blends to a more vertical sidewall in the tip and tail allowing the board to ride higher on the water with more glide speed
•    Most exaggerated bottom bevel starts out at 4° blending to 18° on the ends
•    Deep symmetrical channels
•    Subtle tunnel - more efficient water flow and stabilized landings
•    Rocker line - smooth predictable transfer makes it easier for a rider to have a late take off
•    Diamond Glass - Our secret concoction absorbs more energy before rebounding it - a lightweight woven construction brings less swing weight and increased feel on the water to the board
•    4 Utility Fins
•    4 Fiberglass 1.0” ramp fins
•    Versatile cable and boat board with a controlled flex

IKSURF MAGAZINE AWARDS ARE UPON US AGAIN, S2AS Nominations

So last year the Iksurf magazine awards were a hit and a huge response in all of the categories proved a huge success for many including XENON kiteboards who's LA LUZ board picked up the prize for "best twin tip"
Now as the voting starts again we have thought long and hard about the best brands the world has to offer and of course they can all be found at S2AS we have all ready started voting and here's what the members of our team voted for!!!!

Best Kite Category

SLINGSHOT RALLY - Slingshot and S2AS introduces the Rally! Slingshot have extracted the C kite DNA from both the legendary Fuel and RPM and added a third element of the Delta shape to create the worlds first Open Delta C kite. The Rally and the new open delta C kite platform to deliver all of the desirable features of a Delta kite coupled with the performance and feel of a C kite. The Rally is the choice for the beginner that does not want to out grow his or her kite within months - a kite that you can grow into as opposed to out of. Proven Delta features, such as low end power, responsive pivotal turning, endless lofty hang time, effortless re-launch and unbelievable wind range are matched with C kite predictable power and uncompromised stability. The 3 strut design of the open Delta C harnesses and delivers smooth efficient power through the turn and offers a light weight balanced build for maximum flight stability. Slingshot’s first pulley-less bridle lends itself to a direct feel, enhanced responsiveness, and unmatched upwind performance. The range on the Slingshot Rally kite has been optimised for maximum low end grunt. This means riding in lighter wind speeds with smaller size kites and you'll notice bigger boosts with longer hang times. The turning speed combined with the pulley-less bridle lets you tap into a top end range that translates into complete control when the wind picks up. Fine tuning the Slingshot Rally kite is easy with the Slingshot custom fuel injection (CFI) attachment point. CFI changes the overall feel and bar pressure enabling you to tune the Rally to meet your personal ridding preferences.

FLEXIFOIL HADLOW PRO
Fresh for 2011 is the new HADLOW by Flexifoil. An evolution of 2009's Hadlow Pro, the 3rd generation of Aaron's world class signature kite see's retention of the C-kite performance that the series is reputed for, with a strong element of accessibility added for this year's iteration.

Having already nailed the hardcore freestyle attitude of the HADLOW kite, Aaron has focused on opening the kite up to a new market through the development of an innovative and unique depowered kite setting. With the kite now capable of achieving over 50% more depower under the alternative setting, the versatility of the HADLOW kite across all conditions, be it freestyle, wave or snow, more than matches its precision, speed and power through the air.

2011 also brings a refinement in the freestyle attitude of the kite on both settings, with a much more solid feeling throughout; the HADLOW now produces even more pop on demand to make your tricks more explosive. On the smaller sizes, the speed and feel combines to get the kite down and more extreme into megaloops, but stays fast enough to stop you from dropping out of the sky. On bigger sizes, overall handling is improved to give you more confidence and ease into and out of tricks, whether hooked or unhooked.

Best Twin Tip Board

Xenon LaLuz

Last years Winner has remained fundamentally unchanged and you can see why, super light weight construction and super simple design work make the Xenon La Luz an appealing kitesurf Board from the start, it's when you ride it for the first time you slip your feet into the memory foam pads and notice the amazing amount of flex making for explosive pop and super responsiveness. It is obvious that Laluz basic parameters as pop, speed, and upwind ability are outstanding, but the way it lands makes everybody score more tricks than ever before. The Combination of big rocker, deep concave, variable flex and wide tip/tail area result in lively, responsive board with direct feel and no loss at comfort of riding.

Hadlow PRO freestyle Board

The Hadlow Pro Kitesurf Board Is a True freestyle machine but also proves to be an excellent ride for anybody at any level. Aaron and the team have been working hard to make his whole range of kites and the board to be open and available to everyone on the water and we think they've succeeded! the board is nothing short of awesome and features, an ultra thin lightweight construction that is super tough. A three stage rocker down the centre line, combined with normal rocker on the deck provides extra strength and a smoother, gripped ride for locked in landings, Performance Maximising Tips maximum pop.

s generated through optimum width and flex on the tips. Aaron Hadlow won last years Awards as the best male rider, he knows what he's doing when it comes to Kitesurfing and it shows in his Products.
