So each day we get more news and now we have some info that World Champion Youri Zoon has been disqualified for coming in contact with another rider in his PKRA heat.
We have put the video below as lots of you were asking to see it. now we understand everyone has there opioun on this but really could Youri have avoded such a crash? We do not think so have a look for your self we would love to know what you think.
Youri is a great athlete and also an all round great guy, We had the pleasure of his company last Summer at the Surface 2 Air Summer party and demo weekend.
This is what Youri says about the indent:
"SO here is the DSQ from my side!
The heat went really well, till the DSQ highest scooring heat of the day i have been told. Anyway in the last 30 sec pretty much i saw louis hutter going in and going for a trick, he crashed the trick and i took of just a little down wind of him, at that time the kite was still at 12o clock on his leash.
I was trowing a 317 and landed it clean at that moment louis his kite was at the water and right in front of me no change of avoiding the kite. In this case was the down wind rider and during the trick i could have no way avoid the kite. the verdict well rules are rules! In my opninion , people that make those rules are a bunch idiots that don,t have the experience on the water!! D
o we wanna live by written rules ? im sorry but i dont!
Well lets look it from the bright side now! Had a really good heat landing a BJ 5 and 317 , conditions where perfect for 11m GP. And the fact i was going for the highest score of the day does good to me!
Cheers and have a good one.
It,s time to go big in the double.s!
Im ready!"
We would love to see Youri take the PKRA crown again this year.
good luck Youri.

boots are one of if not the single most important bit of kit you’re going to
get. It’s important then to get it right. Great fitting boots will make your trip away
incredible, whereas bad fitting boots will hurt and if you’re new to the sport,
will possibly put you off. You can judge
sizes and buy the rest of your kit off the internet, but with boots, it’s
always best to try before you buy! Never
buy second hand, all boots worthwhile these days are thermo moulded which means
after time they will set around your feet perfectly. Lending them to people or using someone else’s
will wreck the fit of the boot.
There
are many different shapes and styles of boot out there and while some systems will
work well for you, you may dislike other systems - it’s what works best for
you. The most important thing when thinking of getting boots is to try on as
many different makes and styles as you possibly can, think of it like the wand
buying scene from Harry Potter where he tries out nearly every wand in the shop
until he finds the right one. The most
important aspects of a boot is comfort and to avoid heel lift.
The
main types of boot lacing systems are: quick lace; the boa system; regular
lacing and hybrid lacing systems. As
well as looking at the preferred lacing system, it is important to take into
account the stiffness of the boot. Soft boots are ideal for the beginner to
intermediate rider and stiffer boots are more responsive and are therefore
perfect for the more advanced rider.
Lace up boots
Lace
ups are the original snowboard boot.
They are classic looking and you can make certain areas tighter than
others. They are also super easy to repair in the unlikely event that anything
does go wrong with the laces, as you can just buy new ones. Some of the drawbacks are that they are
difficult to do up with half frozen hands when your half way up a mountain if
they start to get loose.
Quicklace/Fastlace
This
type of lacing system has many different names but they are all pretty much the
same system. There are two handles at
the side that you pull to tighten the lower and upper parts of the boot. This system is simple and quick to use and also
good if you want the foot loose and the ankle tight. This lacing system is also easy to change and
adjust on the go if your boots become loose while riding.
Boa
has really come a long way since their release.
The original boa laces were known to snap occasionally, however the new
ones are near invincible. They have also upgraded some of the newer models with
the Boa Coilers which self coil in and save the need for the endless
tightening. Boa comes in two main types
single and double. The single Boa had
the one Boa that tightens up the whole boot and the double Boa is like the
quick lace system. It has one for up top
and one for the lower half. These are great for those of you that are in a
hurry and want ease of use!!
Hybrids
Some
boots utilise a combination of systems, which can be seen above. These boots have a boa to tighten around the
ankle which will help prevent heal lift and lock the heel down. On other hybrid models you can tighten the
liner and these models still have the original lace on the exterior of the
boot.
Lacing
systems like the above (Speed Lacing) have a strap to help tighten key areas
usually found around the toe area or around the calf. It all depends on the shape of your feet.
To
summarise - there are plenty of different types of boot out of there and there
will defiantly be some out there that will fit you perfectly. It’s just
important to keep an open mind about colour, look, brand, even price and to
concentrate on whether or not they fit. At the end of the day most of them will
be covered up by your snowboard pants and binding straps anyway. I cannot
emphasise enough to try as many pairs as
possible to get the perfect fit! Just
because you’re a size in one model doesn’t mean you will be the same size in
another.
To
find the perfect fitting boot, bend your knees and your toes should be brushing
the end of your boot. Moveable toes are
warm toes!!
There’s
no point skimping on your cash and getting the wrong size as you will have a
lousy time and probably end up forking out for new ones anyway.
Good
luck finding a pair! If your looking for the perfect pair of Snowboard Boots give us a call. Ian Mosby @ Surface2Air Sports
Ok so the new 2013 season is fast approaching
and one brand in particular is making a lot of noise. BEST KITEBOARDING I get a
lot of people asking me what’s going on with Best? They are signing all the
best kite boarders in the world.
Yes very true they are, We broke the news
to you guys about Ruben Lenten making a move to Best kite boarding from
Slingshot. 48hrs later it was confirmed by the man himself.
Youri Zoon also signed a new Intl Team
riders deal with best leaving Slingshot after a number of years.
Why are best spending so much money?
Well I myself think it’s a excellent move
in what is a very small industry kite surfing is all about coverage and no one
gives you coverage like Ruben Lenten and Youri Zoon The two Dutch kite surfers
are a media monsterIndividually
let
alone together.
So where does this leave Slingshot?
Well other than without two of the best
riders in the world at the same place they left of last year I guess. But how
are they going to promote The Slingshot brand going forward?
Slingshot have always been a core brand and
they will find other riders for sure but it will take time nothing is going to
happen over night. Slingshot themselves say “We make Champions not buy them”
Well looks like even if they wanted to they couldn’t as All the Champions
Slingshot have ever had have jump ship why? That’s a question only Slingshot
will be able to answer look at the list:
Also not forgetting the other riders that
have done so much in the past, now these guys may not be ex world champions but we
all know who they are and what they are doing to promote both themselves and
the brands they ride for Again Best kiteboarding.
Lewis Crathern – The man that touched the Sky (Jumped Brighton Pier)
Rubin Lenten – (without a doubt the most powerful rider in the world)
I heard that big Money was backing best
kiteboarding and that the new Team members would get the chance to have a big
input into pro model kites, maybe this is the reason they left Slingshot For Best
Kite boarding, Maybe its not for the money at all as I hear everyone saying all
the time? Only the Riders know and its their business so fair play to them.
I have been told by a good source that the
owner of the High street brand ZARA is an investor in Best Kiteboarding if this
is true I for one think its excellent news high profile for our sport and more
importantly the Money to really push the R&D side of things as we all know,
In the passed we have bought a kite only to find it has a problem. why? This
sort of thing should NOT happen if the correct R&D is done the team riders
should be riding these kites for 6 months before we see them if nothing goes
wrong in that time with a pro rider then its not going to go wrong with us on
the end of the bar.
So more R&D = BETTER KITES & BARS
for us the end users.
Now that’s a lot of talk about Best Kites
what about Slingshot are they heading in the right direction? Losing their best
riders, Kites not changing though the years?
Im the biggest fan of Slingshot in the
world I really am but something is wrong. This is NOT like Slingshot I have
been riding Slingshot kites for 9 years and now for the first time Im not going
to be riding Slingshot Kites this season.
Why? Because the kites have not changed at
all other than graphics look at the Fuel the last serious change on that kite
was the Split Strut and even that was a 2004 Fuel release. The Split strut was
released in 2004 on the Fuel kite and removed some years latter only to make a
return to the Fuel in 2011 Other than that, Nothing.
Then you have the RPM the bread and butter
of Slingshot kites my personal favorite what’s new in 2013? NOTHING! Well apart
from Graphics again how can you sell your 2012 RPM’S and buy 2013 RPM’S knowing
that the it’s the same kite different colour? Slingshot I guess will tell you
if it isn’t broke don’t fix it but every kite year on year can move forward and
improve there is NO perfect kitesurf kite from any brand.
So this all leads me to start to believe
therumoursI have been hearing for 6 months and
now only last week heard it from someone I believe 100%.

We changed everything with the introduction of the RPM five short
years ago. It’s proven “Open-C” canopy design and Slingshot’s patented
Split Strut technology continue to push kite design to a new level even
today. The RPM created (and still dominates) the 3 Strut “Open-C”
category.
Through years of testing and rider feedback, we have made steady
improvements and subtle refinements until reaching the pinnacle it is at
today.
The 2013 RPM Crossover kite is a powerful combination of
aggressive freestyle characteristics and progressive crossover
performance. It’s low profile wingtips increase turning speed and reduce drag, while the custom attachment points optimize kite
performance and deliver complete tuning from freestyle to wakestyle in
seconds. Inspired by our world class team, the RPM delivers unmatched
out of the box performance with many options for personal customization.
Over the years, we have built a full range of sizes to help you
create your perfect quiver. From dominating freestyle to hard core
crossover, the 2013 RPM retains it’s standards of durability and
stability along with it’s aggressive look and feel on the water.
