Richard Branson plus 300+ riders break the World Record

On Sunday, Sir Richard Branson and 318 kitesurfers, who made up The Virgin Kitesurf Armada broke a World Record for the largest number of kitesurfers to complete a 46-mile course and raising money for a number of charities; Virgin Unite, Snow-Camp and The RNLI.

The route started from Hayling Island to Lancing, with a couple of stops at Pagham and Littlehampton until they finished in Lancing. More than 250 were needed at Hayling Island to beat the world record and with over 300 participants – they smashed it!

Some of those who joined Sir Richard Branson included four-time kite race World Champion Steph Bridge, the current men’s kite race European Champion and Youth World Champion, Olly Bridge, four-time British Kite Champion Lewis Crathern and members of Branson's family.

Sir Richard said: “Kitesurfing is one of the best sports there is, if not the best sport. Kiters are always up for a challenge and so I suspect next year there will be 600 kiters, and the year after that 900, and so on.”
