Slingshot RPM 2012 Kitesurf Review

(Kite review is down after the video)
Introduction:
The Slingshot RPM is the original “Open C” kite that started it all. It evolved to become the kite that took Youri Zoon to a world title. It has become a riders favorite throughout the world in just a few short years. Building on it’s dramatic success of the Open-C canopy and Slingshot’s patented Split Strut technology, the RPM pushes kite design to a whole new level. Inspired by Youri’s world dominating performance on the tour, we modified the wing tip attachment points to optimize kite performance and deliver complete tuning customization. These additional features and the new 7m allows complete versatility in all conditions and all riding styles. The 2012 RPM sets the standards of durability and stability while maintaining it’s legendary flying characteristics and aggressive look.

Slingshot RPM 2012 Review:
The 2012 Slingshot RPM is very similar to the 2011. The bar is the same new bar as 2011, but with different bar and line lengths for the different sized kites.

The graphics are completely different on the  bag and kite. On the water the RPM is a true performance kite great for powered tricks and big airs. Kite looping is very quick and the kite is VERY responsive.

It is also great for unhooking and with the self righting chicken loop on the new slingshot bar it makes getting back into the hook that much easier. The down sides are the kite is very quick in the air so maybe not the easiest for a beginner. Also, the consistent pull is tough if you're brand new and not real comfortable using your edge to control kite power.

In almost all cases a kite's positives are also its negatives depending on the rider.

We have all sizes and most colors in stock of the 2012 RPMs here:

Slingshot Releases Teaser of New Z-Series Kites

Brand new 2012 Slingshot Kite the "Z Series". A little about the kite:

Announcing the first “Spherical-C” Profile. The fresh, versatile design of the Z kite gives consistent pull with controlled power and unmatched versatility. Stable and predictable in virtually all conditions. The Z kite produces huge boosts with good control and effortless relaunch. The Z kite is loaded with the latest innovative features. This includes features like our industry first pully-less bridle that delivers a direct feel, enhanced responsiveness, and unmatched upwind performance. Additional unique features like our Spherical-C Profile and Axis Wing Tip allow the kite to easily roll up off the water into relaunch. Like our other kites, the Z has been optimized for maximum range to suit all kinds of riding conditions.

From first impressions this looks like a newer and improved "Delta" shaped kite so will naturally have the following characterisics:

- Unbeatable depower range
- Fast turning speed
- Very good low end and top end
- Fast through the air
- Quick to generate apparent wind.
- Drifts downwind well (ie good for surfing)
- Very boosty and floaty
- Easy water relaunch

Xenon La Luz 2012 Kitesurf Kiteboard Review

We have a review of the new 2012 Xenon La Luz kiteboard, thank-you to Mark Keeler for this review:

Xenon La Luz 2012 Review

Having looked at this board on-line, you really can not appreciate how much detail and effort has gone into the clear crisp graphics on the Xenon Laluz.  The straps are extremely comfortable, easy to adjust and most importantly super absorbant on those heavy landing's.  First thoughts on riding this board is the speed, it really does not hang around and it is quick off the mark.  Its a stiff board with soft tips, the main body of the board is solid tapering off to soft thiner tips. Ideal for choppy conditions.

I found the up wind ability of the board very easy, you just point this board, edge in and it wants to take you there.  The thing that stood out the most about the Leluz was the ability to cut a deep edge and set up for those huge air's, the landing's were effortless and thats my main memories of the first runs on this board.

This board caters for all types of riders, it planes quickly and is stiff enough to Pop well and make freestyle moves effortless.

Great all round board.

Takoon Reflex 2012 Released!

The Takoon Reflex is a hybrid "c" kite design which brings the benifits of c kites together with the simplicity and safety of hybrids and bow kites.

The new reflex design is focused on versatility and control. The kite has a very broad range thanks to its 4 strut design hybrid c shape and moderate aspect ratio.

At the heart of the Takoon Reflex is it's "c" shape to give direct bar feel and consistent power across the window.

The leading edge bridle allows for maximum power and support to the canopy while allowing the kite to de power on demand making it a very efficient and safe kite whilst the positioning of the struts in the four strut design maximise the kites stability and afford it plenty of low end power and allow you to push further into the window and cruise effortlessly upwind. boost is provided in ample amounts for those massive jumps and the swept tips ensure the kite is as fast and reactive as possible making it ideal for new school freestyle or wave riders.

Never Summer SL 2012 Snowboard Review (S2AS)

Alt Text Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked to icy groomers to powder.
Setup: I rode the Never Summer SL with Union Team bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8.
Size: 153cm.
Weight: Average

Alt TextBoard Summary: This all terrain, all condition ride is our most popular and versatile model. For 2011/12 we have modified our Custom Flight Core to reduce weight and increase pop. We’ve also added the Carbon VXR Laminate Technology to the SL adding powerful edge response and control. The lightweight RDS 2 Damping System provides the perfect balance of freeride vibration absorption and freestyle liveliness. Slightly setback for powder floatation but centered enough for spinning and carving, this one board quiver excels on hardpack, in the park, natural features and all around freeriding. Handcrafted in Denver, Colorado, the SL has once again set the standard for all mountain freestyle performance, versatility and durability.

First Impression: Still an all mountain ride everywhere, everything board from NS.

Damp & Flex Meter
Flex: The SL flex is right in the middle of the road, it’s torsionally softer so you have quickness edge to edge but longitudinally has good mid range on flex.  It’s not as soft as the proto or evo and it’s not as stiff as the premier/raptor.  The flex gives it some playfulness with the rocker but also when carving you have enough stiffer longitudinal flex that the board will hold through turns and riding faster for all mountain freestyle.  The SL also has more dampening, even though the catalog just says one notch above when you take the SL through chop, it’ll cut through better and you won’t get bounced around as much as the less dampened boards (Proto, Evo).  The SL has RC Technology which is a mix of rocker and camber, rocker between the feet and camber just outside both of the bindings.

Turning: Easy to engage in turns and torsionally softer so you get quick edge to edge response.  Once on edge, the SL grips the snow and allows you to play with whatever size turn you’d like, short or long radius.  Although long radius carving turns are a blast on this board.  The vario grip helps with the hardpacked, icy spots just giving you extra edgehold so you don’t slip out as easily.

Stability: I came from riding the Proto which is a lot more freestyle than the SL and a softer less dampened ride, so the SL was a breathe of fresh air for charging.  It absorbed the terrain and didn’t let bumps throw you off riding plus it could handle speed and charging a lot better than the softer freestyle boards.  The SL is meant to be the all mountain do-it-all board so when it comes to riding outside of park, it holds its own but inside of park you can play with it.  In the powder, it floated with the RC but not as well as the bigger more freeride boards like the Premier/Raptor I’ve spent time on.
Rocker and Camber
Pop:
The SL got a good amount of time on the jump line in Forest Trail and playing around on the smaller park features in Art Park.  Good snap to the pop and I found it pretty fun to ollie with, handled jumps and playing around with presses.  It’s not as playful or poppy as the Proto or Evo but it can handle park laps.  I had fun with it on the boxes, no catching and was playful enough to ride through park with.

Switch:
The SL is a directional twin the flex is twin but it’s setback with the sidecut and stance
which is some adjustment to how it rides switch but takes a turn or two to adjust to it.  I found it pretty forgiving to switch around and ride switch with.

Overall Impression:
The SL is that all mountain freestyle board for the do-it-all rider.  It can handle the freeriding to pow days but also enjoys park laps or just playing around.  The mid-range dampening and flex make it capable for a mix of riding and it’ll handle what you throw at it.

Honesty Box: I was riding the Proto and switched to the SL soon after.  The SL was noticeably more stable and offered up a more dampened ride that made it a lot more mountain charging friendly.  While the SL has been that in between board, I’ve always found myself leaning either more park or more freeride but never sticking with the all mountain charger.

North Dyno 2012 Lightwind Kite Preview at S2AS

The new series of North kites is really impressive. North team took its time and improved every single model of kite to make sure it offers ultimate reliability and performance. The Dyno is North’s lightwind machine. It is available in 16 and 18 square meters sizes and it seems huge at the first glance, but this awesome kite will get you running in the lightest wind breeze. It offers a unique blend of park and dynamic power and it always offers a smooth flight. Although it is a large kite, the Dyno feels very agile once it is launched and starts flying.

Light wind conditions tend to keep kiteboarders off water. This won’t happen if you have the new 2012 North Dyno with you. This kite is especially designed to face the lightest wind conditions and get you going pretty fast. The Dyno is engineered with special focus on weight reduction. That is why the classic North Lazy Pump system has been eliminated and the inflatable elements have been built using thinner bladder material and lighter Dacron.

North also added two extra segments between the quarter ribs, to create an improved aerofoil surface in the center lifting area and assure a smoother flight in very light winds. A great thing about the Dyno is that it can be used with four or five lines, depending on the rider’s choice. The loaded 5th line generates a direct bar feel, assures reactive steering and provides instant depower when needed.

The Dyno uses the Relaunch Bungees System which assures fast and easy relaunch and prevents the lines from tangling. At the same time, the low profile batten pockets and the thin strut ends prevent the lines from snagging during relaunch. Although the Dyno is quite a large kite, it offers accurate steering and turns quickly. It is easy to control, depower and steer in light winds and it feels reliable even if wind starts to pick up a bit.

A nice thing about the Dyno is that it offers excellent hangtime and it is really easy to use due to the sheet and go concept. If you want to go out and enjoy a nice kiteboarding session, even if the winds seem to be against you or they are pretty much absent, the North Dyno is the perfect kite for you. It really laughs at lightwind conditions and flies great.

New for 2012:
- New Sizes: 10m, 13m, 15m, 17m
- Lighter Material
- New more efficient profile and canopy
- Faster Turning Size for Size
- More lift and better air response
