Pete has been into watersports ever
since he was knee high to a grasshopper; as a kid he started off body boarding
and soon progressed onto windsurfing. Eight years ago, on a windsurfing holiday
in Fuerteventura he decided to learn to kitesurf, and since then has never
looked back!
He tries to get out on the water as much as possible all year around, and is often the first person on the water and the last one off. Freestyle and wakestyle are his real passion, and can often be seen getting dragged around under the kite after attempting his latest trick. Whether it be big air, board-off's, kiteloops, handlepasses, strapless surfing or skimboarding, Pete likes to mix it up and try them all.
When Pete is out on the beach, his kite-dog Rocky is sure to be close by, running up and down with every tack, barking away whenever Pete comes close. He's even attached a Go-Pro to him to get some footage, with some success :)
Pete has been a regular at the BKSA
freestyle events over the last couple of years. In 2010 he entered the amateur
division, and after some disapointing results in the first few competitions,
slowly started to get the hang of things, culminating in second place for the
year. This year he entered the Senior competition and made good progress
througout the entire year, getting on the podium in every event; but again took
second place for the year due to the great consistent performances of Pete Whiteley.
He's now trying to push hard over the winter to move onto more technical tricks
and gain the all-important consistency which often makes all the difference.
He has a great interest in the technical side of things, and relishes the chance to try out the lastest kites and boards when conditions allow. He likes to share reviews on his personal webpage (www.forcesix.com) and also produce and edit kitesurfing videos, so that even when he's not on the water he's still doing something kitesurfing related. This summer he took a two month sabbatical off work, and gained his instructors qualification; he'd like to become a freestyle coach one day and help the up and coming push themselves out on the water.
